Head of Climate and Agriculture Research Group
Agroscope, the Swiss federal centre of excellence for research in the agriculture and food sector, is seeking a Head of its 'Climate and Agriculture' Research Group. The position is permanent, 80-100% (job sharing possible), starting 01.01.2027. Place of work is Zurich (Reckenholzstrasse 191, 8046 Zürich), with the planned place of work from 2028 in Posieux, and working from home possible.
The Agroecology and Environment Research Division studies the effects of agriculture on climate, air, soil, biodiversity, nutrient cycles and water, developing solutions for sustainable agriculture based on agroecological principles and real data. The 'Climate and Agriculture' research group explores options for reducing agricultural greenhouse-gas emissions from soils and fertilisers and through carbon sinks, investigates the opportunities and risks of climate change for plant production and evaluates adaptation options. It is also responsible for the Swiss Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the 'Climate and Agriculture' Research Group
- Research on climate mitigation and adaptation measures in agriculture, with a focus on the role of soils as greenhouse gas source and/or sink
- Coordinate a research call within the Agroscope work programme
- Knowledge transfer: active involvement in Agroscope committees, information events with federal authorities, representing Agroscope at national and international events, mentoring early career researchers
Requirements:
- PhD in climate sciences, ecology, environmental systems sciences, agricultural sciences or similar
- Enthusiasm for strategic research planning and developing research projects; ability for systemic thinking across agricultural research areas
- More than 5 years of professional and managerial experience in the field; exceptional leadership and communication skills; team player; creative, goal- and results-driven
- Proven ability to acquire external competitive funding
- Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and English
