Fixed-term contract (CDD) of 24 months, Category B (technician), starting 01/01/2027, based at the IRD in Montpellier (Hérault, France) within the DIADE research unit (DIversité, Adaptation et DEveloppement des plantes tropicales; IRD-Univ. Montpellier-CIRAD), GENOPS team.
About the employer: IRD is a French research institute for international scientific cooperation, present in more than 50 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific. Its research addresses climate change mitigation and adaptation, poverty and inequality, biodiversity preservation, access to healthcare and social dynamics.
The team: GENOPS specialises in the study of palms, notably the production of oil palm vitroplants, in scientific collaboration with partners in the Global South (Benin, Indonesia).
Mission: Under the responsibility of a CIRAD scientist, you will carry out in vitro culture of oil palm and be in charge of vitroplant production. Activities include: independent preparation of liquid and gelled culture media following existing protocols, including sterilisation by autoclaving; sub-culturing under a laminar flow hood of calli, somatic embryos and plantlets, with line identification, computer tracking and lab notebook upkeep; monitoring acclimatisation of vitroplants in phytotron and greenhouse (transplanting, watering, pruning, fertilising); assisting with reception and culture of new palms and with shipment of vitroplants abroad; supporting other research team members (e.g. polyploidisation monitoring by flow cytometry, histology, microscopy); possible initiatives on other species (date palm, coconut).
Profile: Mastery of in vitro culture techniques (media preparation, culture, sub-culturing, multiplication, acclimatisation); asepsis and contamination control; precise media preparation (pH adjustment, sterilisation, concentrations); rigour and experimental traceability; observation and diagnosis of cultures. Team spirit, rigour and autonomy. Diploma at level 4-5 (baccalauréat, BTS).
