The IISD Geneva Internship Program offers students studying at universities based in Switzerland the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience with IISD's Geneva office. IISD is an award-winning independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. The Geneva office has teams focused on: Economic Law and Policy (international economic policy-making including investment, trade, taxation, infrastructure, finance, agriculture, mining, and sustainability standards); Energy (Global Subsidies Initiative and just transition work to shift financial flows from fossil fuels to clean energy); Resilience (climate risk management and National Adaptation Plans); Communications (outreach products, social media, media relations); Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation; and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF). IISD is seeking interns for Autumn 2026 (September to December), minimum 3 months and maximum 4 months, for 15 hours a week during term time and up to 40 hours a week during university vacation. Eligibility: enrolled in a master's-level (MA, MSc, LLM) or Ph.D. program at a Swiss-based university with the internship counting toward academic credits; fluent in English; excellent academic performance; and a valid Swiss residence permit (student B, regular B, or C permit) or Swiss citizenship. Additional consideration is given to relevant professional experience and proficiency in French or Spanish. IISD provides an allowance equal to a monthly Geneva public transport pass plus a per diem for lunch; the internship is otherwise unpaid.
