Ingénieur En Bio-Informatique H/F
The IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement), a French international scientific research institute, helps strengthen the resilience of societies facing global change, with activities in more than 50 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific. This 18-month fixed-term contract (CDD, Category A, Ingénieur d'Etudes) is based at the DIADE research unit (Diversity, Adaptation and Development of tropical plants; IRD-Univ. Montpellier-CIRAD) in Montpellier, within the Dynadiv team. Under the PEPR Agroécologie et Numérique programme, the project studies the genomics of plant adaptation and evolution associated with climate, to support the agroecological transition.
Responsibilities:
- Develop bioinformatics tools to analyse plant adaptation to climate variation and future climates, using innovative methods to query pangenome/pan-graph data.
- Build software components for these analyses and integrate them into an existing tool; validate the integration and scripts on datasets from different plant models; provide tutorials and training for their use.
- Develop bioinformatics tools to account for DNA sequence uncertainty (contamination, low depth, data type, repeats) due to ancient DNA (post-mortem damage, heavy fragmentation) in analyses of diversity and climate association.
Profile:
- Mastery of UNIX systems and experience handling data on HPC; knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Apptainer).
- Proficiency in Python and R, ideally some notion of C or similar.
- Knowledge of biology and sequencing data analysis.
- Autonomy, rigour, teamwork, and ability to manage interactions with multiple researchers.
- Level 7 diploma (engineering degree and/or Master's) with bioinformatics experience.
Benefits: 32 days of leave plus 13 RTT days, collective catering, optional social-works association, MGEN supplementary health coverage, and a pleasant working environment accessible by tram. Expected start date: 01/01/2027. Remote work is not possible.
